The SOS Early Alert System (MUM) is utilized by faculty and staff to register a concern regarding a student’s attendance, behavior or experience. A Pathways Center staff member sends referrals to the appropriate resource (counseling, tutoring, etc.) who then contacts the student directly.

The Fostering Independence Through Education Tuition Waiver Program (FosterEd) provides a waiver for tuition and mandatory fees for youth who are or were in foster care. Waynesburg University students have the opportunity to engage in mentoring in a number of ways. Students can request a peer mentor or get involved in the Peer Leadership program on campus.

Students who are placed on academic probation (2.0 or below) are enrolled in WBE 107: Academic Mentoring and automatically assigned a volunteer faculty or staff mentor who they are required to meet with weekly throughout the course of a semester.

Students who qualify for federal work study positions can inquiry and apply through the Pathways Center! In partnership with Financial Aid and the Business Office, we do our best to help students find on-campus work!

"The PA Act 101 (Act 101) Program is a state-funded program which allocates funds to Pennsylvania postsecondary institutions that operate an approved Act 101 program. The funds support services to academically and financially disadvantaged students to assist them in successfully completing postsecondary study" (PHEAA, 2023).

Qualifying students are assigned an on-campus counselor who supports them throughout their college experience. Act 101 Program counselors include staff members from the Pathways Center and the Counseling Center at Waynesburg University. Services provided to Act 101 students include: 

• Personalized advising
• Lending library access
• Enrollment in WBE 107: Academic Mentoring if the student is placed on academic probation
• Peer tutoring 
• Counseling services
• Disability services
• On-campus workshops and programs
• Event and professional development funding

Waynesburg University provides free peer tutoring and study tables. Tutoring sessions are scheduled through an online platform to accommodate the schedules of both the tutors and the students being tutored.

The Waynesburg University Writing Center is a place for all levels of writers to talk about writing. A comfortable place to discuss words, the Writing Center’s primary goal is to help writers engage in the writing process, build a toolbox of techniques and resources, and produce a strong final product.
