First-Year Freshman Scholarships

Achievement Awards

We review your high school GPA and SAT/ACT test scores to determine your high school academic achievement, and, based on that, we’ll award you one of the following scholarships. The scholarship you earn for your first year is renewable and awarded for eight consecutive semesters (excluding summer) of undergraduate enrollment or until a bachelor's degree is achieved (whichever comes first) on Waynesburg University’s main campus.

Who can apply: All accepted first-year freshman students will be considered for an Achievement Award based on their application for admission. Scholarships below are effective for new first-year freshman students beginning Fall 2026. Scholarship amounts are reduced for students who do not reside in University housing.

Out-of-state students: Out-of-state students who receive an Achievement Award also qualify for our State Scholarship, worth an additional $4,000/year. Additionally, students who travel more than 300 miles one way from their home address may qualify for a travel voucher for a campus visit.

Competitive Scholarship Programs

As a first-year student, you can also apply for competitive scholarships, each of which has its own set of requirements.

Bonner Scholarship - Apply by Jan. 9, 2026

As one of only 21 Bonner Scholar schools in the country, Waynesburg University awards $3,000 to $5,000 annually to selected students in return for a commitment to service while enrolled (Bonner Scholars do community service an average of 10 hours per week).

Who can apply
Accepted first-year students who are passionate about service, qualify financially and have a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA and are in the top 40% of their graduating class.

Chemistry Merit Scholarship - Apply by March 1, 2026

This scholarship recognizes talented students who wish to pursue a major in the chemical sciences (chemistry, biochemistry, forensic chemistry, chemical education, or pharmaceutical science).

Who can apply

Each year up to three incoming freshmen at Waynesburg University will be selected. Each scholarship is $3,000 and renewable up to four years so long as the recipient remains in a chemistry-related major. Those that receive the scholarship will be required to participate in chemistry-related student organizations and outreach.

Entrepreneurial Leadership Scholarship - Apply by May 29, 2026

The Entrepreneurial Leadership program is seeks innovative students to become part of their scholar’s program.

Who can apply
The program is open to students who are majoring or minoring in Entrepreneurial Leadership. Selected students will become part of a cohort which will act as student ambassadors for entrepreneurship on campus, they will serve as advisors for the eHIVE to develop and deliver programing under the direction of the eHIVE director.

Founders Scholarship - Apply by Feb. 7, 2026

Waynesburg University is proud to offer a full tuition and fees scholarship, the Founders Scholarship. This is an academic scholarship available to a very select group of high academic achieving students.

Who can apply
Accepted first-year students who intend to reside on campus and have a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or higher, an SAT of 1200 or higher on Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and Math or an ACT composite score of 26 or higher. Fall 2026: Students who meet the other above criteria and did not submit a test score (SAT or ACT) as part of their application for admission, may apply for this scholarship if they have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. Jeffrey and Regina Taussig Ohio Honors Scholarship - Apply by Feb. 7, 2026

The Jeffrey and Regina Taussig Ohio Honors Scholarship is a full tuition and fees scholarship for four years at Waynesburg University. To be eligible for the award you must meet these requirements:

Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0
Ohio resident
Considerable co-curricular activities
Major in one of the following areas at Waynesburg University: Biochemistry, Biology, Biology Education, Chemistry, Chemistry Education, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Science, Health & Exercise Science, Health & Exercise Science Pre-Physical Therapy, Health & Exercise Science Pre-Athletic Training, Marine Biology, Math Education, Biomedical Science, Pre-Dental, Pre-Medical, Pre-Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science, Pre-Veterinary.

Scout Scholarship

Stover Scholarship

Also known as The Stover Center for Constitutional Studies and Moral Leadership Scholarship, this merit scholarship is presented through the university’s prestigious scholarly center that explores how to bring insights from the U.S. Constitution’s founding era and Christianity to contemporary public life.

Stover Scholars, of whom five are selected each year, awards $5,000 annually, plus $500 to participate in conferences and up to $1,000 to offset the cost of an internship.

Who can apply
Accepted first-year students who have successfully engaged in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum and have commensurately high SAT or ACT scores (if available, not required), and conceptual leadership experience. Please note, if you do not have an SAT or ACT test score, you may still be considered for this scholarship, and are encouraged to apply, if you meet the other above stated criteria.

Waynesburg Christian Life Scholarship - Apply by March 1, 2026

Waynesburg University’s mission is to educate students to make connections between faith, learning and serving so they might faithfully transform their communities and the world. Waynesburg University helps students develop academically and professionally on the foundation of faith. Each year, up to four incoming freshmen at Waynesburg University will be selected to receive the Waynesburg Christian Life Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes students that have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and that are involved in the life of a local church as they grow in faith. The Waynesburg Christian Life Scholarship is $4,000 over four years ($1,000 per year).

WU Visit Grant

The WU Visit Grant is a four-year renewable grant of $1,000 per academic year ($4,000 total), and is awarded to full-time, undergraduate students that file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. Both resident and non-resident students are eligible.

High school juniors and seniors and transfer students who attend an in-person Waynesburg University campus visit qualify for the WU Visit Grant.

To qualify for the upcoming Fall 2026 semester, incoming students must visit campus no later than March 1, 2026.

*Virtual Visits do not count toward WU Visit Grant eligibility. Students must attend an in-person Waynesburg University campus visit to qualify.
